Lesson 3: How to visualize data?  

Overview: Data visualizations, such as charts and graphs, are invaluable for uncovering patterns and trends within data. However, they require careful interpretation to avoid potential misinformation. The following lesson empowers you to become a discerning consumer of data by teaching you to critically evaluate design elements like scales and color palettes. Meanwhile, data storytelling is the art of transforming numbers and facts into engaging narratives that inform and captivate audiences. You’ll learn techniques for presenting data in a clear and compelling manner, making complex information accessible and actionable. Explore a framework for structuring your data story, covering essential elements like context setting, highlighting challenges, and presenting outcomes or solutions. 


Lesson 4: What are key misconceptions in data?

Overview: Delve into the realm of data analysis by debunking common misconceptions. This three-part series equips you to avoid common pitfalls in data analysis and leverage its power in real-world applications. This video addresses and clarifies common misconceptions, including overfitting complex models, misinterpreting p-values, and confusing correlation with causation. 

Lesson 5: Why/How Data is Collected? 

Overview. In our data-driven world, understanding how data is collected is crucial for making informed decisions. Often overlooked, data doesn’t appear magically. It’s meticulously gathered through various methods, from simple surveys to complex digital analytics. Individuals, groups, and automated systems all contribute to this vast pool of collected data. However, the decisions made during data collection have significant consequences, impacting the questions we can answer and the data’s trustworthiness. This series explore who collects data, how it’s done, and the ethical considerations involved. By understanding the process, we can better evaluate the reliability and validity of the data-driven stories we encounter.  The second video delves into the tools of trade, offering a closer look at the technologies and methodologies employed in collecting data. From traditional surveys to cutting-edge digital analytics, learn about the diverse instruments that capture information from a myriad of sources. 

Lesson 6: What is Data Privacy? 

Overview: Data privacy involves handling and sharing personal information responsibly, while data security protects this information from unauthorized access. This video discusses why it’s crucial to keep personal information, like names and social security numbers, private. Also explore the benefits and risks of sharing health data from wearable technology and explain important data privacy laws like HIPAA and GDPR. Finally, it will offer tips to maintain your data privacy, such as reading terms of service, using ad blockers, and managing app settings, helping you protect your personal information. 


Lesson 7: What is Data Security? 

Overview: Learn about data security, its importance in safeguarding sensitive information, and the measures used to protect data from unauthorized access, breaches, and theft. Data security is essential for protecting personal information from unauthorized access and ensuring its integrity and confidentiality. Key aspects include the responsible handling of data and using robust security measures like two-factor authentication and strong, unique passwords. Regular software updates and cautious sharing of information further enhance data protection. Understanding data privacy laws, such as HIPAA and GDPR, helps individuals know their rights and the protections in place. By staying informed and proactive, we can significantly reduce the risks associated with data breaches and ensure our information remains secure. 

Lesson 8: how to do a credible data research? 

Overview. Researchers spend significant time analyzing data, ensuring its accuracy and reliability before it reaches the public. This process involves gathering historical records, verifying sources, and undergoing rigorous peer review. Once published, research papers serve as a way for researchers to share their findings and receive credit for their work. Peer review ensures the quality and credibility of research before it’s disseminated. However, the publishing process can be lengthy and involves multiple revisions based on feedback from reviewers. Despite its complexities, understanding the research process helps us evaluate the credibility of information presented to us. By recognizing the effort and scrutiny that goes into research, we can better interpret and trust the data we encounter. 

Lesson 9: What are common data mistakes? 

Overview. In the world of research and information, the landscape is constantly shifting. What may be true one day could be outdated the next. This fluidity is inherent to the scientific process, where new data and insights prompt continuous updates and revisions. Yet, amidst this evolution, a significant data mistake can occur if we become too entrenched in our existing beliefs and fail to adapt to new information. This lesson explores the importance of remaining open to evolving facts and offers strategies to navigate the ever-changing realm of information. From scrutinizing sources to detecting potential data fraud, we delve into the tools and insights necessary to stay informed and discerning in an era of dynamic data.
